Lockton Mountain West names Leo Tokar president of employee benefits group

With more than 20 years in the insurance industry, Tokar leads benefits group in Colorado, Arizona, and Nevada

DENVER, June 11, 2018— Lockton, the world’s largest privately held independent insurance broker, named Leo Tokar as president of their employee benefits group for the Mountain West operation.  Employee benefits encompasses health and welfare, retirement, and benefits restoration practices. Before joining Lockton in 2010, Tokar learned the ins and outs of insurance by working as a state insurance regulator and actuary.

“In Leo, we found an exceptional leader who already has the trust and respect of both clients and Associates due to his expertise and willingness to listen,” said Mark Bundy, chief operating officer of Lockton’s Mountain West operation.  “Leo’s vision will help us continue to grow and strengthen our employee benefits business in the Mountain West.”

Clients and Associates aren’t the only ones seeking Tokar’s advice. His broad financial and market experience has allowed him to be active in public policy both as a regulator for the Kansas Department of Insurance and when he led insurance functions for all market segments at Kaiser Permanente. He has helped not only large companies with complex business challenges but has spoken on behalf of consumers through testimony on rate reform and through advice to the Department of Labor on the application of Affordable Care Act rules to clients.

“Having had multiple roles in the insurance industry, I can see challenges and solutions through differing perspectives,” Tokar said. “We have a high focus on making sure we serve our clients well and that we work to develop employee benefits strategies that will encourage recruitment and retention for business success.”

When Tokar isn’t working with clients to improve their employee benefits business, he is active in his community. He serves as a board member for the Porter Adventist Hospital, Colorado Health Institute, Delta Dental, American Cancer Society, Colorado Succeeds, and Judi’s House. He is also co-chair of the Denver Metro Chamber Healthcare Committee.

Tokar earned his bachelor’s in economics from the University of Kansas and his MBA and master’s in marketing from the University of Colorado.
