The New National Safe Patient Handling and Mobility Standards

This is the first time national standards for Safe Patient Handling and Mobility have been drafted and published. The scope of the standards apply to several healthcare disciplines and settings and to different intensity levels of patient care. The goal of the standards is to help create a balanced culture of patient and employee safety.

A working group of professionals from healthcare, insurance and safety worked with the sponsors, the American Nurses Association (ANA), to create a guideline for implement Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM) for all care settings.
