Simplifying Complicated Language in Construction Contracts

Construction contract terms and insurance are often complicated. While that is nothing new, having a new way to understand these “maddening” terms is a welcomed change.

Diane Bureman, Senior Vice President and Senior Account Executive for Lockton Companies, offers simple explanations for this otherwise complicated jargon in construction as a three-part series for Engineering News-Record.

“When insurance requirements are unclear in a contract, do not make assumptions,” advises Bureman. “Always understand clearly what you are agreeing to, and whether it is even commercially available.”

Every word and punctuation mark in a contract counts, especially construction contracts. Bureman highlights multiple key phrases that few people fully understand, but that are included in many construction contracts
