Shopping Federal Marketplace: Kicking the Tires on a New Car


This week, the Feds released tentative rates for the federally run health insurance exchanges or “Marketplaces” opening soon in many states. Some of the rates appear very low, but – like buying a car – it’s buyer beware. Rates depend significantly on the level of benefits offered, the policy's deductible and other cost-sharing requirements borne by the insured, limitations on access to certain doctors and hospitals, and other factors.
