Employers Help Prevent Workplace Violence with Lockton’s Advice

We all want to feel safe at work, but no industry is free of the possibility of severe workplace violence. During National Safety Month, Lockton encourages employers to adopt procedures that can reduce employer risk while keeping workers safe.

Our loss control experts Lori Severson and Larry Poague explain in their white paper, “Workplace Violence: Employers Can Reduce Their Risks”  that employers must address the reality that workplace violence may occur.  Each year in the United States, approximately 700 employees are killed on the job. While public opinion tends to think that the mentally ill are perpetuators of workplace violence, recent studies suggest that substance abuse is the strongest contributor to violence. Lockton has also created a workplace violence prevention toolkit to help companies prevent and prepare for workplace violence.
