Security

Q. Is it safe to put my personal details online?
A. Yes. We handle your data in accordance with our obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998. Whenever we ask you for personal information, we do so within a secure environment and all details sent between your PC and our web site are encrypted.

Personal information
We do not rent, lend or sell personal information to anyone. Personal information will be held securely in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.

Information you provide is used to help us meet your needs, including:
  • Supplying you with products and services you have requested, initially or at renewal
  • Supplying you with information about additional products and services
  • Improving our products and services, and the operations of the Web Site
If we share information with a service provider or agent or affiliate we protect the information with a strict confidentiality agreement. Companies that supply support services or act as our agent or affiliate must conform to our privacy standards and only use personal information in the provision of those services or conduct of the agency (e.g. an assistance company handling medical emergencies under a travel policy).

We reserve the right to disclose information to:
  • Conform to legal requirements or comply with legal process
  • Collect or report debts owed to us, or protect our rights or property
  • Prevent fraudulent claims (e.g. through participation in the Claims and Underwriting Exchange Register operated by Insurance Database Services Ltd and the Association of British Insurers)
Q. What information do we collect?
A. The type of information we collect about you and other people to be insured includes:
  • Name
  • Address
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Other details necessary to underwrite or fulfil an insurance policy
  • Credit/debit card details
Sensitive / Personal information
Occasionally it may be necessary to collect sensitive personal information before providing insurance cover. Such information may relate to:
Physical or mental health
Criminal offences or pending prosecutions.

Where such information relates to someone other than you, you must obtain their explicit consent before disclosing it.

Q. Can I browse the site anonymously?
A. You can visit the Web Site without revealing any information about yourself, including your e-mail address.

Q. How do we keep our records accurate?
A. We will make every reasonable effort to ensure the information we hold about you is accurate and up-to-date. Under the Data Protection Legislation you are entitled to request a copy of the personal data we hold on you by writing to us and paying a fee. If you find any errors, please notify us and we will correct them promptly. If you wish to change or modify information provided previously, please use the contact details on our "contact us" page.

Q. Can I choose how you communicate with me?
A. Email communication is important between Lockton and its customers/prospective customers. If you give us permission when purchasing a product from us, we may use your email address to send you information about other services and products that we believe will interest you. If you subsequently want to opt-out from receiving future emails about services and products, please use the contact details provided on our contact us page. We do not send random marketing emails to personal email addresses (spam).

Q. What security is used on this site?
A. Whenever we ask you for personal information, we do so within a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) - an industry-standard security technology which encrypts details sent between your PC and our website. SSL protects information over the internet and ensures it cannot be tampered with. To benefit from this technology you need to use an SSL-capable browser. Browsers which will activate SSL automatically include the latest and more recent versions of Netscape and Microsoft's Internet Explorer.

We can't guarantee the same level of security when information is sent via email; whilst the vast majority of emails are not intercepted, there is a risk that your data could be visible to third parties.

We are who we say we are
You can’t see the people or company you are dealing with online - as you can when you visit a shop or office. An SSL digital certificate allows you to authenticate the website and confirm its ownership.

If a web site has a valid digital certificate, as this web site does, you can check it and verify the:
  • Domain for which the certificate was issued
  • Owner (who is also the organisation with the right to use the domain) and their physical location
  • Period during which the certificate is valid
