MINING INDUSTRY SEEING MORE TRANSPARENCY, ERM PRACTICE
Mining is viewed as a high-risk industry, but mining in North America is safer than some other industries, such as agriculture and lumber, in terms of the number of claims, according to experts.
The biggest challenge in the industry for underwriters is a lack of understanding of the true exposures, says Chandler Cox, president and chief executive officer of American Mining Insurance Co.
Cox was one of several casualty underwriting experts speaking on a panel at the 2012 North American Mining Summit, hosted by insurance broker Lockton. The summit had 140 attendees representing 56 mining companies.
