Our History
Lockton Insurance was founded in 1966 by
Jack Lockton (1942-2004)
in
Kansas City. From that modest, home-based business, Lockton Insurance has
become Lockton, Inc., the world's largest privately owned independent insurance
brokerage firm.
For the first ten years, Lockton was dedicated to the construction industry.
In fact, Jack Lockton started his career as an underwriter for a surety
bonding company before he started his insurance brokerage. Our company
developed its core values and philosophies by focusing on the construction
industry, a business that values partnerships, innovation, a sense of
urgency, and strong loss prevention and claims management services.
Lockton operates globally. In 2006, Lockton acquired Alexander Forbes
International Risk Services and the 1,600 professionals of Lockton
International serve clients around the world.
Lockton’s success flows from its commitment "to provide the most uncommon
results and service in a most common business." While we have experienced
remarkable growth, our flat organizational model and short lines of
communication remain. David Lockton, our Chairman, and the leaders of
our operating companies have day-to-day responsibilities regarding client
relationships and new business opportunities. They bring a strong sense
of our clients’ needs to the decisions made regarding the operation and
future of our company.
